As Boston Public School students protest budget cuts to their schools, elected officials are also trying to fight for public schools. On Tuesday night At-Large City Councilor Ayanna Pressley will lead a community conversation at Doyle’s Cafe in Jamaica Plain to discuss Boston Public Schools budget cuts, unified enrollment and the continued expansion of charter schools.
There is already talk about three Boston City Councilors vying to become the next city council president — with one being District 6 City Councilor Matt O’Malley. And O’Malley already has the public support of one sitting city councilor — Ayanna Pressley.
At-Large City Councilor Ayanna Pressley not only topped the ticket across all of Boston in Tuesday’s elections, but she received the most votes in Jamaica Plain, too.
The Boston City Council is set to give itself a raise if it doesn’t act on a Mayor Marty Walsh proposal by Election Day due to a stipulation in the city charter. That would be a $12,000 raise without a vote by the city council.
