Watch & Listen: Julian Loida Silver Laquer | Lucy Little Accidentally Inspired
Called “one of the Boston music scene’s most valuable players” by The Art Fuse, Julian Loida is a percussionist, composer, and producer. Loida’s musical curiosity and open-mindedness has propelled him towards a wide-range of sounds, genres, and artistic endeavors. He’s performed jazz, folk, and classical, collaborating with dancers, visual artists, songwriters/composers, and musicians of all stripes. The thirst to participate in and experience this range of sounds is partly a product of Loida’s synesthesia. Music is a full- body experience for him, with sounds often invoking involuntary sensations of color, texture, or even taste.
Violinist Lucy Little’s musical practice lives on the edge of many styles, inspired by a lifelong exploration of classical, minimalist, modal, jazz and electronic music. A collaborative artist at heart, Lucy plays in numerous ensembles, including blues/indie rock outfit Half Gringa and chamber rock group The Phantom Broadcast. She has performed with singer/songwriter Dani Larkin (Northern Ireland), singers Lykanthea (USA) and MICHA Música (USA), with qanun player Afarin Nazarijou (USA/Iran), as well as with Julian Loida.
The performance is presented by Mandorla Music and will take place at Hope Central Church, 85 Seaverns Avenue. Doors open at 7:30 and music starts at 8. General admission tickets are $15 in advance at mandorlamusic.net and $20 at the door. Students with ID $10 at the door only.
