ESNA hosting Boston Landmarks Commission

ESNA Housing Committee is hosting a presentation by the Boston Landmarks Commission (BLC) on Monday, February 13, 6:30-8 pm online. This is an opportunity to better understand BLC’s new structure and guidelines about preserving historic buildings, as well as to learn more about the work of the City’s Office of Historic Preservation.

- Explanation of the revised city structure with regards to the Boston Landmarks Commission (BLC) The City of Boston Office of Historic Preservation is responsible for promoting and protecting the City of Boston’s built cultural heritage. That department houses the Boston Landmarks Commission, the City Archaeology Program and (soon) the Commemoration Commission. Together, they advocate for the environmental, social, and economic benefits of Boston’s historic resources.
- Demolition Delay (Article 85) Did you know that the City’s Demolition Delay Ordinance only protects (non-landmarked) buildings for 90 days? Learn what this means about protecting historic properties.
- Environmental Benefits of Historic Structures DId you know that the greenest building is the one that is already built? Learn about why historic structures are green by design.
- Landmarking Almost any resource in Boston at least 50 years old can be landmarked, but what does this mean?
