One of the most talked-about statewide ballot question in this November’s election is Question 2, which asks Massachusetts residents if the cap on charter schools should be lifted. If the measure passes, more charter schools could be created in the state.

Jamaica Plain resident State Sen. Sonia Chang-Diaz, D-Boston, is the chair of the state’s Committee on Education. Jamaica Plain News was able to speak with Chang-Diaz during the recent JP Music Festival and asked her opinion of Question 2.

Cecile Richards, president of Planned Parenthood Federation of America, visited Jamaica Plain on Sunday to stump for Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign. State Sen. Sonia Chang-Díaz and State Rep. Liz Malia, both JP Democrats, were also among those who attended. State Senator Sonia Chang-Díaz, while adamant that she did not use her influence to cut through city red tape on a disputed renovation of her Forest Hills home, said Monday her architect admits he drew up the addition to be too tall.

The JP Neighborhood Development Corp., known for its efforts at increasing affordable housing, is also an important backer of the neighborhood’s small businesses. And the tax dollars that support a key program, Small Business Technical Assistance, aren’t in the state Senate’s budget (or the governor’s, for that matter.)
