Jamaica Plain Residents Running for Dana-Farber Marathon Challenge Team

Two Jamaica Plain residents are running the 130th Boston Marathon as members of the Dana-Farber Marathon Challenge team. On April 20, Sara Stalica and Tia Freund, will be part of the 37th annual Dana-Farber Challenge team. 100% of the funds raised by the team goes to Dana Farber’s Claudia Adams Barr Program in Innovative Basic Cancer Research.

Wenham Street Cinema Permanently Closed

The Wenham Street Cinema has closed its, um, garage doors forever. What started off as watching movies together in a JP resident’s garage became so much bigger. Boing! Toy Shop is expanding into the adjacent empty storefront. A sign in the old storefront of George’s Shoes (669 Centre St.) by JP Centre/South Main Streets says that Boing! is expanding into the location. City Approves Alcohol Licenses for Four Jamaica Plain Restaurants

Boston’s Licensing Board approved 13 new alcohol licenses recently, including four Jamaica Plain restaurants. The Behan Caffe, which will open on Centre Street next to the Behan Pub, received an all alcohol non-transferable license, as did Ethiopian Cafe. Also, beer and wine licenses were approved for Third Cliff Bakery and Ula Cafe. The Boston Licensing submits the restaurants’ applications to be approved by the state Alcoholic Beverages Control Commission for final approval.

Help Guide City’s Jamaica Pond Boathouse and Bandstand Project

The city would like to hear residents’ thoughts on the Jamaica Pond Boathouse and Bandstand as they investigate potential repairs, renovations and/or additions. The boathouse and bandstand date back to 1912 and are mainstays in community events such as the annual lantern parade, and many other gatherings. No More Bluefin: Seafood Shop Permanently Closed

The owner of the Bluefin seafood restaurant/store announced that the Centre Street business is permanently closed. Owner Jason Tucker made the announcement on Facebook. He added that Bluefin will still be selling seafood at the Jamaica Plain Farmers Market on Saturday and Tuesdays, as well as the Roslindale Winter Market. Bluefin opened at 660 Centre St. in 2024 as a fish market, and also sold chowder, oysters, lobster rolls, and more.
