I grew up in a neighborhood of hardworking families, where everything seemed within reach. It was thanks in large part to our incredible small and local businesses. For years, these local landmarks have carried on the traditions of my neighborhood, and generated the prosperity that’s helping Dorchester thrive to this day.

What will Mayor Martin Walsh order from Alex’s Chimis on Thursday? Will he go for the delicious roast chicken? The fried chicken? A side of sweet plantains? A side of yucca with pickled onions?
But Mayor Walsh isn’t just visiting Alex’s Chimis to get some delicious Dominican food. He’s leading a three-day event in which he will highlight Boston’s Main Streets.
In September 2015, work began: we broke ground on a renovation to the Jamaica Plain Branch of the Boston Public Library, a $10 million renovation that aimed to revitalize this community space, and ensure Jamaica Plain has a new, innovative library for residents to gather. I’m so proud to announce the renovation is complete. Together with the Boston Public Library, I invite all residents to join us for the branch’s grand reopening this Saturday, May 20th, at 11 am.
In January, the busy streets of Boston became safer. As we dig out from this month’s snowstorms and prepare for spring, I want to remind drivers, cyclists and pedestrians about our City’s newest initiative to make our streets safer: reducing the speed limit on streets in Boston from 30 miles per hour to 25 miles per hour (MPH).
