The Friends of the Jamaica Plain Branch Library Winter Book Sale is taking place at the library (30 South St.) on Dec. 5-7.

Everyone is warmly invited to attend the December Vigil in Support of Black Lives Matter as this monthly Vigil begins its 10th year. The program includes a reading from Frederick Douglass’s 1893 speech “Lessons of the Hour,”  the closing words of which are, unfortunately, as apropos today as they were 131 years ago. This event is from 5:30 to 6:30 pm on the lawn of First Baptist Church (633 Centre St.).
