20th Annual Jamaica Plain Canine Costume Parade

Haute dog! JP Centre/South Main Streets’ 20th annual Jamaica Plain Canine Costume Parade will be on Saturday, October 26th at 12 PM. The pup procession will feature dozens of four-legged friends, dressed to the (ca)nines, and will make its way down Centre Street with a police escort, and music from the JP Honk Band.
Registration begins at noon at the First Baptist Church, 633 Centre St, and the parade kicks off at 1 PM, and will proceed down Centre Street to the Loring Greenough House at 12 South Street, where the primped pooches will walk the red carpet and compete for prizes awarded for the top three costumes. The event is emceed by Brad Brown, owner of JP favorite Blue Frog Bakery.
In the last couple of years, there have been ruff-ly 100 dog participants with over 1000 spectators including 400 to 500 watching the Red Carpet. This year’s judges will include City Councilor Ben Weber, State Representative Samantha Montaño, Dr. Jonathan Levine the owner of the Jamaica Plain Animal Clinic, and the Editor of TimeOut Boston Jacqueline Cain. The event will conclude around 3 PM.
While everyone is welcome to participate, people are encouraged to register their dogs for the costume contest for a $10 fee. 100% of all registration fees go to the City of Boston Animal Shelter.
JP Centre/South Main Streets is a volunteer-driven, 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that brings residents, businesses, and the City of Boston together to guide the growth of Jamaica Plain’s Centre and South Streets business district. In partnership with Boston Main Streets, they provide a direct conduit to the City of Boston, provide technical assistance to new businesses to succeed, and promote community events that sustain the Centre/South corridor.
