The epic snow makes it understandably harder for trash and recycling haulers to reach the bins, but some residents are at the end of their patience after as many as four weeks of missed trash or recycling pickups.

On Monday the city debuted a new Web service that lets you see how much of your neighborhood has been plowed, which phase of the snow removal process the city is in and even the names of the plow drivers on duty in your area.

Sunday morning Boston Public Works contractors were out in full force clearing the business district and intersections at Egleston Square. Sadly, a few motorists had their cars towed but the area was well marked. In one remarkable act of generosity, a tow truck driver had a car on his hook near Millennium Restaurant and was turning out when he backed up and dropped the car after being notified the work had been completed in that stretch.

Maybe you’ve noticed the new concrete emplacements at several places along Centre Street. For me, they bring to mind my favorite old Saturday Night Live skit.
Well, that didn’t take long. The good news is the city has removed the graffiti.
The city is adding biographies and “quick response codes” to hero square memorials so residents can quickly find out more about the military men and women for whom those corners are named.
