Catch Footlight Club’s WWII Era Dramedy ‘Into The Breeches’ This Weekend

The Footlight Club has something in common with its new play Into The Breeches — as it takes place at a community theater — and that’s where the similarities end.

Into The Breeches is a comedy that takes place during the World War II era, in which the play’s director and most of its male performers are away at ear.

Determined to keep the Rhode Island theater going, the director’s wife, Maggie, decides to save season of Shakespeare’s Henry plays by casting women in the male roles. The comedy follows the cast as they personally fall in love with the power of Shakespeare and community theater.

Directed by Eric Roberts and produced by Benn Salter, Into The Breeches features a cast led by
Allison Rudmann Putnam as Maggie, and including Rachel Renton, Alicia Powell, June Maguire, Eden Sanders, Cassidy Guimares, Victor Brandalise, and Peter McElhinney.

Into The Breeches opened Feb. 7, and there will be shows Feb. 13-15 and 20-21, Fridays and Saturdays at 8 pm, Sundays at 2 pm, with a sensory-friendly performance on Feb. 21 at 2 pm. Tickets are available online at footlight.org or at the box office the night of the show.
