Learn About JP-Born Nobel Peace Prize Winner with Historical Society on Jan. 24

Emily Greene Balch was born in Jamaica Plain, and won a Nobel Peace Prize in 1946. Learn about her life and life’s work at the Connolly Library on Jan. 24 at a free Jamaica Plain Historical Society event.

Wellesley College Professor Catia Confortini will reflect on Balch’s legacy, not only as a scholar and thinker, but also as a teacher who taught at Wellesley, and as an activist. Balch founded and led the Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom, and had a strong interest in social issues such as poverty, child labor, and immigration.

In the event the Boston Public Library closes due to heavy snowfall, the event will only be held via Zoom. The event will take place from 2-3:30 pm.
