David Halbert Running for Boston City Council At-Large

Last updated on February 13, 2019

The field for this year’s at-large Boston City Council election continues to grow with a wealth of viable candidates. Mattapan’s David Halbert is one of those candidates.

David Halbert is running for at-large Boston City Council in 2019.

While Halbert doesn’t live in JP, he does have a strong connection to the neighborhood, having been the Jamaica Plain liaison for former District 6 City Councilor John Tobin. Halbert also previously worked for At-Large Boston City Councilor Sam Yoon, as well as Governor Deval Patrick.

Currently, Halbert is the deputy director of community affairs at the Middlesex County Sheriff’s office. His role includes serving as the director and lead organizer for the People of Color in Criminal Justice Conference.

“In the time since I left Councilor Tobin’s office Jamaica Plain has continued to grow and develop; with new businesses and amenities being created and older spaces like the Milky Way being repurposed,” said Halbert. “Unfortunately not everyone has been able to participate in this growth. Our challenge as a city is how to balance creating pathways for communities like JP to stay economically and socially dynamic; preserving the unique character that has always made them so special; and enabling all residents to benefit from this ongoing growth – not just those with capital and connections.”

Halbert lives with his wife, two children and dog in Mattapan, and previously lived in East Boston for close to 15 years. He is still involved with East Boston organizations, including East Boston Main Streets and the Piers Park Advisory Council.
