Speaking Tour to ‘Raise White Reparations to Black People’ in JP on Nov. 8th

Last updated on November 3, 2018

The annual Days of Reparations to African People international speaking tour is coming to the First Church of Jamaica Plain on Nov. 8 and will include a discussion about how “white people can be in genuine solidarity with African liberation.”

“African liberation” means that African (black) people around the world would have total control and access of Africa, including its resources, education, police, housing and more, said Halley Murray, chair of the USM Boston chapter and event coordinator, via email to Jamaica Plain News.

Omali Yeshitela, who founded the Uhuru Movement and coined the political theory of African Internationalism, will be the event’s lead speaker.

The tour focuses on raising “white reparations to African (black) people” and a flyer of the event advertises “white solidarity with black power.”

“White solidarity with Black Power — this is our slogan in the Uhuru Solidarity Movement (USM). It means that white people can be in solidarity with the self-determination of African people to lead their own struggle. It goes beyond wearing a safety pin or holding a Black Lives Matter sign in your yard — we stand in material solidarity by paying reparations. Black Power is ‘self-determination, political and economic power in the hands of the African working class.’ Black Power has no material interest to oppress anyone on the planet,” said Murray.

“White power, on the other hand, is ‘the power of the white ruling class State, either directly or as extended to proxies working in its interest, or the general white population upon whom it is automatically conferred due to the political and social authority extended to it by relationship to the colonialist State and parasitic economy to which they are attached’,” said Murray.

The tour is a campaign of the African Peoples Solidarity Committee, its mass organization, the Uhuru Solidarity Movement, which were both founded and are led by the African People’s Socialist Party.
