Boston Police Charge Dorchester Man with Centre Street Double Homicide

Boston Police have arrested and charged a Dorchester man with two counts of murder for shooting two men dead at 277 Centre Street on the night of May 4.

After eight days from the murders, BPD homicide detectives arrested Wilvin Guity, 28, for allegedly shooting and killing Christopher Joyce, 23, and Clayborn Blair, 58. Guity is scheduled to be arraigned in Roxbury District Court on May 14, according to BPDnews.com.

The two victims were shot to death around 9:41 pm at 277 Centre St., outside of the Mildred C. Hailey Apartments. A Boston Police officer nearby heard the shots and quickly ran to the scene and found two men suffering from gunshot wounds.

Joyce and Blair didn’t live at the Mildred C. Hailey Apartments, but had ties to the community. Joyce was scheduled to graduate from Salem State University on May 19.

“I want to commend my Homicide Detectives for the hard work, long hours and meticulous attention to detail that led to the arrest of the suspect in the case. And, while I’m certain our city is a safer place with Wilvin Guity behind bars, I’m still angered when I think about the senseless gun violence that took the lives of Christopher Joyce and Clayborn Blair,” said Police Commission William Evans. “Community members all across our city should be able to gather and socialize in public places in the company of neighbors and friends without the fear created and caused by those who carry illegal guns in our city. Chris and Clayborn did absolutely nothing wrong and most certainly deserved better fates. And, while there are no words to lessen the pain or sense of loss being felt by the family and friends of Chris and Clayborn, it is my humble hope that word of today’s arrest will provide for them some small measure of comfort and closure.”
