Calling All Gourmands: New Tour Highlights Jamaica Plain Food

Last updated on April 7, 2018

A new tour with a Jamaica Plain foodie focus is making its way through the neighborhood while encompassing history, dessert, beer and delicious food.

Off The Beaten Path Food Tours includes a mix of food and history.

“We truly believe JP has the freshest, yummiest food in town,” said Lizzie Bell, co-owner of Off The Beaten Path Food Tours and Experiences.

With her husband Sam Schlussel, the duo launched the tour company, which has featured food tours in Harvard Square, Davis Square and Union Square. They launched their Jamaica Plain tour in March, and it’s given on weekends.

“Time and again, I found myself visiting Jamaica Plain because there is an incredible food scene here with lots of unique stories and history as well as a strong, neighborly culture that shines through,” said Bell. “We are excited to take guests on a delectable culinary journey through the commercial district of Centre Street. We will visit a mix of historic restaurants that have graced the neighborhood for decades and also newer businesses that are growing their following.”

Tour goers will meet at a prearranged location, tours last about two hours and include four to six tasting locations while mixing food and history.

“We are going to do some finger-food, so a sampling of dishes at Cafe Beirut and also a taco at Chilacates, some halvah at Espresso Yourself… whatever Daryl whips up at Taylor House!” said Bell to Jamaica Plain News.

The tour also accommodates varied dietary preferences by providing a variety of fare. There will also be beer at Turtle Swamp Brewing.
