Running with Friends: 5K Jamaica Pond Parkrun Every Saturday

Last updated on April 12, 2018

Do you want to run but don’t want to get out there alone? Then the free Jamaica Pond Parkrun happening every Saturday morning is for you.

The Jamaica Pond Parkrun is every Saturday at 9 am.

Rose Penfold and Laura Cornelissen created the organized 5K run that starts at 9 am every Saturday from the Pinebank Promontory.

Penfold said she wanted to create a community run because she missed her local parkrun in London after moving to Boston in 2017. So she Cornelissen and Ann Carbone held a few informal weekly runs. “There ended up being 20 of us that first run, and one dog,” said Penfield in a blog post.

Now the runs are part of a national parkrun organization and the first official run took place on March 31st.

It is a noncompetitive run — just you against yourself and the timer (if you want to know your time). If you do want to know your running time you’ll want to register and print out a barcode by visiting the Jamaica Pond Parkrun website.

The run is organized completely by volunteers. If you want to volunteer or know more please email jamaicapondhelpers@parkrun. After the run participants often grab a coffee at City Feed and Supply.
