A Boston Police K-9 dog located a handgun tossed by a 21-year-old Norwood man after he allegedly robbed a Jamaica Plain convenience store and police nabbed the suspect on Dec. 30th.
Boston Police were called to the JP Convenience Store at 36 Gay Head Street around noon after a male suspect pointed a firearm at the store clerk, demanded cash and fled on foot, according to bpdnews.com.
Police found a suspect who matched a provided description in the area of 59 Creighton Street. Officers frisked the suspect, didn’t find a fireman, but did allegedly find cash crumpled up and sticking out of his left front pants pocket. Police were able to review security video of the incident, which clearly showed the suspect holding a black and silver handgun during the robbery — and showed him stuffing cash into his left front pants pocket.
Rocky, a BPD K-9, and his handler, were brought to the scene to locate the gun. Rocky tracked the suspect’s path and quickly located a loaded .45 caliber Ruger P345 handgun hiding under a barrel on Edge Hill Street. Rocky also found other evidence connected to the suspect, according to bpdnews.com.
The suspect, Saquan Hines, was allegedly positively identified as the person who robbed the store, and was arrested. He will be arraigned in Roxbury District Court on several charges, including armed robbery, assault by means of a dangerous weapon, intent to rob while armed, unlawful possession of a firearm and unlawful possession of ammunition.
