20,000+ Criminal Cases Tossed Due to Former JP Lab Chemist

Prosecutors across the commonwealth have moved to vacate more than 20,000 cases that were tainted by former state chemist Annie Dookhan, who worked out of the Hinton Lab in JP.

The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) of Massachusetts estimated that 24,000 cases could be thrown out due to Dookhan, who served three years in prison after pleading guilty in 2013 to obstruction of justice, perjury and tampering with evidence. She was paroled last year.

The total number of cases across seven counties ended up being a whopping 21,857, with 7,886 being dismissed in Suffolk County, according to MassLive.com.
