Passengers knocked out windows to escape an Orange Line train bound for Forest Hills on Tuesday night.
The incident took place around 9 p.m., according to reports on social media and Universal Hub. Rider Heather Parker captured extraordinary scenes of the evacuation on the State Street platform.
According to UHub, a damaged third rail began smoking and caught fire.
The incident slowed trains in both directions. T officials briefly shut down State Street Station.
