Arnold Arboretum Director Chooses 2015 Favorites: Bark, Flowers, Buds and More

Arnold Arboretum Director Ned Friedman started the New Year with a five-part series of his End of the Year Favorites, including ornamental barks, buds, flowers and more.

“…some of my favorite photographic memories of the venerable plants of the Arnold Arboretum in 2015, with a focus on fruits,” included the zen magnolia “in glorious fruit” in August, wrote Friedman. He also highlighted the Japanese silverberry and a Sorbus hybrid.

Friedman also highlighted his encounters with ornamental barks such as paperback maples, the mottled bark of a London plane tree and the hackberry.
