It’s been The Winter of Our Discontent for many a Boston-area runner forced to train through one of the snowiest winters in our region’s history. But all that work is about to pay off, as registration is now open for the MSPCA-Angell’s fourth annual Run Fur Fun 5K on Saturday, April 4 at DCR Artesani Park in Brighton.
Online registration for the run, which is presented by title sponsor eVacuumStore.com, is open and runners can register by clicking here. The 2015 race also marks the Run Fur Fun’s transition from a fall to spring event, reflecting the desire of many participants to kick start their spring fitness regime.
The Run Fur Fun 5K drew 700 registrants last year and, to accommodate the increased demand, the 2015 field has been expanded to 900 runners.
As in previous years it is expected that the run will sell out in a manner of weeks. The registration fee is $25 for those running with a dog and $20 for those running alone. Proceeds from the run help fund the MSPCA’s animal care programs.
In only its fourth year the Run Fur Fun 5K has become a premiere fundraising event for the MSPCA. It is expected that this year’s race will raise more than $60,000 to fund the organization’s law enforcement, advocacy, shelter and veterinary programs—which combined provide direct hands-on care for tens of thousands of animals every year.
The race course is flat and fast but the event is first and foremost a fun run, with hundreds of participants running alongside their dogs. There will be awards for the top finishers in seven different age groups as well as awards for top fundraisers. Additional prizes will be awarded for best dog outfit as well as the “most spirited” dog.
