Boston Police found a loaded hunting pistol under the bed of a 17-year-old on Horan Way on Friday.
Police report that their Youth Violence Strike Force, along with the Department of Youth Services, arrested a juvenile on an outstanding warrant and firearm charges at 10:40 a.m. on Friday. Youth Services had gotten a tip that the 17-year-old had been seen with a gun the previous day.
Police say they did a “protective sweep” of the young man’s room before allowing a relative to collect clothes for him. They say they found a loaded silver and brown Ruger MKIII Hunter .22 caliber firearm under his mattress.
In 2013, police took 1,061 guns off the streets, a figure Mayor Marty Walsh highlighted in his State of the City speech.
