Future Unclear for Harvest Coop’s South Street Location

The lease on a popular coop grocery store is up on Feb. 28, fueling speculation on whether the location will stay open. Harvest Coop has two locations in JP — its original South Street location and a newer outpost in Forest Hills.

A board of directors meeting has been set for Monday, Jan. 5, in JP. Before the board goes into executive session, members of the coop are invited to give their thoughts in an “extended public session” from 6-7 p.m., according to an email sent to members.

Ever since the locally-owned grocer announced plans for their 3815 Washington St. location near Forest Hills Station, residents have wondered if the coop would maintain both JP stores.

Reached Monday morning at the grocery store’s Central Square location, Chris Durkin of Harvest Coop had no message for JP residents in advance of the meeting.

“It’s a member thing,” Durkin said.

According to a community post on Jamaica Plain Patch, there are sticking points between Harvest and their 57 South St. landlord.

Here’s a calendar item for the Jan. 5 board meeting. Click through to add the meeting to your Google Calendar or iCal.
