Good morning, JP. I hope your basement isn’t under a foot of water, as some are after Tuesday’s drenching. Here’s your Morning Memo for all things JP.
#5onMain: Here’s a challenge that’s right up JP’s alley. Mayor Marty Walsh wants all residents to buy at least five holiday gifts in the city’s 20 Main Street business districts. Like any halfway respectable marketing effort, this one has its own Twitter hashtag. So when you stock up on Christmas treats at Gondres Bakery, for instance, make sure to Tweet a photo with #5onMain. In addition to buying local gifts, the city says to use the hashtag when you go out to eat or attend holiday events in the districts. JP has three Main Street districts: Centre/South, Hyde/Jackson and Egleston.
Egleston Square Tree Lighting: One of those events is coming Saturday, as Egleston Square lights its holiday tree. The celebration runs 2-6 p.m. Saturday, with Walsh expected to light the tree around 5 p.m.
Class Lives Book Launch: JP Forum celebrates the release of “Class Lives: Stories From Across Our Economic Divide” on Thursday. Editors of the book include JP’s own Chuck Collins. The launch party includes a mini story slam with residents and book contributors telling five-minute and one-minute stories. 7 p.m. Thursday at First Church in JP Unitarian-Universalist, 6 Eliot St.
Okay, have a great rest of the day. Let’s hope the rain stops or stays moderate for those of our neighbors battling flooded basements.
