The annual Firefighters Memorial Service at Forest Hills Cemetery was especially poignant this year, as the 121st remembrance focused on the firefighters who died this March in a Back Bay blaze.
The service was held Sunday morning at the Fireman’s Lot, a section of the garden cemetery set aside for Boston Firefighters killed in the line of duty.
This year’s ceremony, naturally, focused on the lives of Firefighter Michael Kennedy and Lt. Ed Walsh. Kennedy is buried in the Fireman’s Lot while Walsh’s family chose a family plot in the lieutenant’s native Watertown.
If you missed the ceremony but would like to visit to pay your respects, the Fireman’s Lot is on a bee-line between the Walk Hill Street gate and Lake Hibiscus. It’s marked by the letter “Q” on this map ( PDF.)
