Earlier this month the JP Little Library went missing or was damaged. The was great sadness in the realm. But now someone with the nom d’square rule “Karma Carpenter” is promising the neighborhood a new one.

For now, a simple wood box is serving as a placeholder atop the electrical box at the corner of Bardwell and South streets. That’s kitty-cornered from the larger-scale JP Branch Library.

The temporary wooden box already has donations of books and magazines. The “Karma Carpenter,” put a note scribbled on scrap wood saying, “New library in construction.” Several residents have scrawled messages of encouragement on the piece of wood from “Woo hoo!” to “Thanks, Tiny Library. We missed you.”

The Jamaica Plain News reached out to JP’s Sage Radachowsky, who goes by the name Karma Carpenter, to confirm if that’s him, but we haven’t heard back.

The Little Library on South Street is just one of at least three micro-libraries in the neighborhood. There’s the Tiny Library in Hyde/Jackson on Chestnut Avenue near Paul Gore Street and a classy glass-fronted one at the St. Rose Street Community Garden.

This is a big weekend for book lovers in JP. The JP Branch Library’s annual is Friday and Saturday.
