We launched the neighborhood’s newest news source, Jamaica Plain News, with a party during the spring’s inaugural First Thursday Art Walk.
Dozens of residents stopped by to give their best wishes to the new project. My wife, Jane, and I are deeply appreciative of the warm welcome back to the neighborhood.
The launch party took place during a celebration of First Thursday. Mayor Marty Walsh attended and spoke of the link between the arts scene and a healthy neighborhood economy.
I was the founding editor of Jamaica Plain Patch. The new project, Jamaica Plain News, takes its name from the first all-local newspaper serving the neighborhood. It ceased publication in 1932.
Jamaica Plain News is an online news and community website for our neighborhood. We provide fast, fresh, local news and a platform for residents to connect with one another.
During the launch party, about 50 people signed up for the Jamaica Plain News email newsletter. We send it out each weekday morning with a roundup of the latest in news about JP. If you’d like Jamaica Plain News in your inbox each morning, here’s how to sign up.
