A section of Green Street across from the police station was cordoned off from pedestrians Wednesday because of dangerous icicles.

The block from Washington Street toward the Green Street T station had yellow warning tape around it at midday. Workers are removing the icicles and the sidewalk appears to be reopening soon.

About 15 U.S. residents die each year from falling icicles. It’s more dangerous in Russia, where the ice daggers claim 100 lives a year. This image from graphs.net sums up how ice can kill.
